Not only are South African cities aiming to be more innovative and smart, but so are the residents of our local towns. Ever heard of free last mile transportation with a tech-powered advertising model? That is exactly what the Franschhoek, Cape Town-based startup, Mellowcabs are doing.

Mellowcabs’ primary product is a brand new and attractive electric vehicle that retrieves its main source of income not by carrying passengers, but selling advertising space on, and in the vehicles. According to the startup, their vehicles are extremely visible and offer optimum space and a esthetically pleasing design. Mellowcabs combine pedalling with a powerful electrical motor and easily accommodates two passengers with hand luggage. To ensure full safety, all our pedicabs have SABS/NRCS certification and will soon be registered as proper road-worthy vehicles in South Africa. his means passengers could get constant information about their immediate surroundings, be notified of special events or promotions at stores in their immediate vicinity or get a fully guided experience, in a language of their choice. The software also offers a social media platform. Rides are offered free of charge to passengers, however they are encouraged to tip the driver. South African city smartness at its best!
