What is TakeAction
Take Action SA is a social initiative that allow all South Africans to easily log problems and issues related to security, infrastructure and maintenance such as crime, traffic violations, potholes, broken traffic lights and leaking water pipes.
Log problems using your smart phone and attach a photo. We will tag the incident with the GPS location of the incident. We will route the incident to the relevant service provider depending on the incident type and GPS location. If no service provider is available in the specific area we will inform you of such but still keep a record on the incident.
The service provider can log in, escalate and resolve the incident FREE OF CHARGE by registering and logging into the back-end incident management application. There is no cost to the user and every service provider receives one free login. There is no impediment to action other than the lack of will to do so.
Throughout the world services are provided by a symbiotic relationship between public entities, non-profit organisations and private companies. You can invite your service provider, public or private, to join the initiative free of charge. Once they have joined, you can choose to notify any number of service providers related to you, the location and the type of incident. For example, if you report crime in your area you can notify the local police, municipal law enforcement and your private security service provide (if they have joined).
Download the app, log in and make things visible. The more people log the louder our combined voices become to make a difference and improve our world.
Take action SA.
Why touch screen smart phones?
We are well aware that the largest part of the South African, African continent and world population do not have smart phones. But we have to start somewhere and rather than do nothing we will start with the most relevant and powerful technology available for what we want to achieve – touch screen smart phones. These devices allow users to easily log incidents, take and attach photos and send GPS locations wherever problems are.
For those members of the public that do not have smart phones we provide a national location-based SMS number to log calls – 35225. This function uses the location of the cell tower from which the message was sent to route the incident to the relevant service provider. It is only available to MTN and Vodacom customers and costs R3.00 per sms.
